A Maiden man will serve 20 to 29 years in prison following his conviction for sexual assault offenses involving minors.
Timothy Joe Parlier Jr., 46, was sentenced to serve the active term of incarceration following a plea to two counts of statutory rape of a child 15 years old or younger during Catawba County Superior Court on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
The Honorable Karen Eady-Williams, Superior Court Judge from Mecklenburg County, imposed terms of the active sentence after Parlier entered the guilty plea.
The defendant will serve his period of incarceration in custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections. As part of his sentence, Parlier also was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of 30 years, enroll in sex offender treatment and not to have any contact with the victim.
“The amounts of abuse you have inflicted upon these children … is unfathomable,” Judge Eady-Williams told Parlier. “I hate the fact that this happened to these children. You failed miserably.”
A female victim, now 20 years old, wrote a detailed letter when she turned 18 years old that outlined what was inflicted on her by the defendant.
A forensic interview of that victim’s siblings by the Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County confirmed the abuse, along with interviews from numerous individuals who had suspicions that something may have happened to the victim.
A very detailed investigation into the allegations by Maiden Police Department corroborated what the victim described happened from the time she was about 8 years old in Catawba and Lincoln counties.
“You were supposed to be my role model, my safe place, my protection. Instead, you were the opposite,” the victim read in a statement for the Court. “No child or adult should have to go through the things Mr. Parlier put me through. Mr. Parlier kept me trapped my whole life.”
Jaleel Smith was the lead investigator for Maiden Police Department. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County provided assistance. Assistant District Attorney Jessica Phillips prosecuted the matter for the State with aid from Legal Assistant Dea Crowe.
