Workplace Assault Nets Active Prison Sentence Of 11 to 14 Years

Nicholas Aundrey Propst, 43, of Hickory, was sentenced to an active prison term of 11 to 14 years for a workplace assault during Catawba County Superior Court on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The sentence was imposed by Superior Court Judge Karen Eady-Williams of Mecklenburg County after Propst entered a guilty plea to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Propst will serve the period of incarceration in custody of the North Carolina Division Adult Corrections.

The assault took place on August 23, 2024, at the workplace of the two men.

The investigation showed that the defendant stabbed the victim multiple times. The first stab was to the back, and the victim also suffered lacerations to the face and shoulder.

Propst left the scene on a bicycle but was apprehended a short distance from the business by officers with Long View Police Department.

The investigation was conducted by Captain Davey Anderson of Long View Police Department. Assistant District Attorney Melanie Earles prosecuted the case for the State with assistance from Legal Assistant Jordan Arney.
