Xzavier Latrell Smith, 33, of Conover, was sentenced to serve six to eight years in prison following his conviction for trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of firearm by felon during Catawba County Superior Court on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
The Honorable Karen Eady-Williams, Superior Court Judge from Mecklenburg County, imposed terms of the active sentence after Smith entered the guilty plea.
The defendant will serve his period of incarceration in custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections.
He also will be required to pay a mandatory fine of $50,000.
The offenses occurred on June 18, 2024, and stemmed from a probation search. A K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs and paraphernalia in a vehicle at Smith’s residence, and investigators from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office were contacted.
Acting on a search warrant, deputies found more drugs inside the home and located five firearms under the house. The State Crime Lab analysis showed the drugs to be a trafficking amount of methamphetamine.
Smith previously was convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in May 2009 in Catawba County.
Tyler Burgess was the lead investigator for the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant District Attorney Melanie Earles prosecuted the matter for the State with aid from Legal Assistant Jordan Arney
