Greensboro Woman Enters Guilty Plea For Attempted Murder

A Greensboro woman will spend 19 to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury during Caldwell County Superior Court.

Kelani Courtney Fields, 20, was sentenced to serve the active prison term by the Honorable Daniel A. Kuehnert, Superior Court Judge from Burke County, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

The defendant pleaded guilty as charged to the crimes in July 2024, leading to last week’s sentencing hearing.

Fields will serve her prison sentence in the custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections.

On September 30, 2023, the defendant drove to Caldwell County from Guilford County and attacked her former caregiver with a knife. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte to receive treatment.

Investigation of the case was conducted by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant District Attorney Nolan Hancock prosecuted the matter for the State.
