Defendant to Serve 5+ Years for Burglary, Theft

Christopher Eugene McCrary, 39, of Conover, received an active prison sentence of five to seven years following his conviction for two counts of larceny of motor vehicle, larceny after breaking and entering, and first-degree burglary.

The Honorable Gregory R. Hayes, Superior Court Judge from Catawba County, imposed the prison term for McCrary after he pleaded guilty to the offenses during Catawba County Superior Court on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

McCrary will spend his prison term in the custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections.

The offenses occurred August 8 and 19 as well as December 24, 2019. They involved breaking into a business and taking a work van and power tools, the theft of vehicles from a local car lot and burglary of a home.

The cases were investigated by officers from Hickory Police Department, Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and Claremont Police Department. Melanie Earles handled prosecution for the District Attorney’s Office.
