Prison Sentence Imposed for Child Sex Offense

Ignacio Cortez Macedo, 36, of Claremont, was given an active prison sentence of six to 12 years following his conviction for sexual crimes involving a minor during Catawba County Superior Court on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.

The Honorable Gregory R. Hayes, Superior Court Judge from Catawba County, imposed the prison term for Macedo after he pleaded guilty to second-degree forcible sex offense and indecent liberties with a child.

The defendant will serve his sentence in custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections, be required to register as a sex offender for life and is subject to deportation.

The offenses occurred in June 2018 and involved a 13-year-old female victim.  During a forensic interview, the victim described three separate incidents when the defendant touched her inappropriately, rubbing her private areas on each occasion.

Capt. Allen Long led the investigation for Claremont Police Department, with assistance from Catawba County Department of Social Services and the Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County. Assistant District Attorney Scott Lippert prosecuted the matter for the State.
