Child Sex Abuse Leads to Prison Sentence

Rodriquez Darius Griffith, 31, of Hickory, was given an active prison sentence of 15 to 23 years following his conviction for multiple sexual offenses with a child during Catawba County Superior Court on Thursday, March 21, 2019.

The Honorable Louis A. Trosch, Superior Court Judge from Mecklenburg County, imposed the prison term for Griffith, who pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree statutory rape, two counts of incest with a child younger than 13 and first-degree statutory sex offense.

Griffith also will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. He will serve his sentence in custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections.

The offenses took place between January 2015 and August 2016, and they involved a 7-year-old female victim.

According to investigation by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told her mother in August 2016 that the defendant would “stick things inside her.” Another family member said he saw the defendant do such things to the victim on several occasions.

A forensic interview of the victim revealed that Griffith sexually assaulted the child on several occasions and had sexual intercourse with her at other times during a period of more than 18 months.

Russ Boger handled the investigation for the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Catawba County Department of Social Services and the Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center of Catawba County. Assistant District Attorney Jamie Adams prosecuted the case for the State.
