State Elects to Proceed Non-Capitally in Tony Odum Case

Prosecutors for the State announced during Burke County Superior Court last week that they will not seek the death penalty in the murder case of Tony Jerome Odum.

Odum, 49, of Morganton, is charged with murder in the November 20, 2018, shooting death of his son, Emmanual Forrest Odum.

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. His next scheduled court date is set for March 4, 2019.

The case remains under investigation by detectives with the Morganton Department of Public Safety and agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
